Hibiscus plant care
Are hibiscus plants easy to grow?
Yes. Hibiscus are generally easy to grow when given warmth, bright light, regular watering, good drainage, and feeding during the growing season.
How much sun do hibiscus plants need?
Most hibiscus plants flower best in full sun to part sun. In very hot areas, some protection from harsh afternoon sun may help.
Can hibiscus grow in pots?
Yes. Hibiscus grow very well in pots, making them suitable for patios, balconies, courtyards, and smaller gardens. Make sure the pot has good drainage holes.
How often should I water my hibiscus?
Water when the top layer of soil begins to dry. Hibiscus like consistent moisture, especially in warm weather, but they should not sit in waterlogged soil.
Why are my hibiscus leaves turning yellow?
Yellow leaves can be caused by overwatering, underwatering, poor drainage, low nutrients, pests, sudden temperature changes, or natural leaf drop. Start by checking soil moisture and drainage.
Why are my hibiscus buds falling off?
Bud drop can happen due to stress, inconsistent watering, heat, cold, pests, lack of light, repotting, or recent transport. Give new plants time to settle after delivery.
Do hibiscus plants need fertiliser?
Yes. Hibiscus benefit from feeding during spring and summer while they are actively growing and flowering. Use a fertiliser suitable for flowering plants and follow the label directions. The ideal fertilizer for hibiscus is medium nitrogen, low phosphorus, and high potassium.
When should I prune my hibiscus?
Prune during the warmer growing season or at the start of active growth, usually around September. Remove dead, weak, or damaged stems first, then shape the plant as needed.
Can hibiscus survive winter?
It depends on the variety and your climate. Tropical hibiscus prefer warm conditions and should be protected from frost. In cooler areas, growing them in pots can make them easier to move and protect.
Ordering plants
Will my hibiscus be flowering when it arrives?
Plants may arrive with flowers, buds, or foliage only, depending on the season and growth stage. Hibiscus flowers are often short-lived, and buds may drop during transport.
Will the plant look exactly like the product photo?
Product photos show the variety and flower style, but every live plant is unique. Size, shape, leaf growth, flower stage, and colour intensity may vary. Flowers may appear different when flowering during colder months.
What size plant will I receive?
Each product page should list the pot size or approximate plant size. Because plants are living products, exact height and shape may vary slightly.
Do you restock sold-out varieties?
Some varieties may return when plants are ready, while others may be limited or seasonal. You can contact us about a specific hibiscus.
Can I request a specific colour or variety?
Yes. Contact us if you are looking for something specific. We may be able to help or let you know when similar plants become available.
Shipping and delivery
Do you ship hibiscus plants?
Yes, if shipping is available to your location. Plant delivery may depend on your state and biosecurity rules.
Where do you ship to?
We currently only ship to addresses in Queensland, Australia.
How are plants packed for delivery?
Plants are carefully packed to help protect them during transit. Some minor soil movement, leaf bending, or temporary wilting can occur, but plants usually recover with proper care.
What should I do when my plant arrives?
Unpack it as soon as possible, check the soil moisture, water if needed, and place it in a bright, sheltered position. Avoid repotting immediately unless necessary.
Can I delay shipping?
If you need your order shipped at a later date, please contact us before placing your order. We will do our best to help where possible.
What happens if my plant is delayed in transit?
Courier delays can occasionally happen. If your plant arrives in poor condition due to a delay, contact us within the timeframe listed in our Refunds and Returns Policy and include photos.
Returns and refunds
Can I return a live plant if I change my mind?
Because plants are living products, we do not accept returns for change of mind. Please choose carefully before placing your order.
What if my plant arrives damaged?
Please contact us within 24 hours of delivery with your order number and clear photos of the plant, packaging, and shipping label. We will assess the issue and offer a suitable solution where appropriate.
Do you offer refunds or replacements?
If your plant arrives significantly damaged, unhealthy, incorrect, or not as described, we will work with you to resolve the issue. This may include a replacement, store credit, refund, or another suitable remedy.
Do I need to return the plant?
If a return is needed, we will provide instructions.
Biosecurity and plant restrictions
Are there restrictions on sending hibiscus plants interstate?
